The Kannen Art-House is an integrated section of the Alexianer Hospital in Münster, a clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy. The Kannen Art-House is aimed to promote long term patience with exceptional artistic talent. Their creativity and development has been supported since the early 80s. From the wealth of material collected over more than 20 years of art therapy, the Kannen Art-House has organized numerous exhibitions both inside and outside Germany. The collection now consits of over 5000 works of art including drawings, paintings and several sculptural objects.

Since October 2000 a spacious new building, suitable for people with special needs, has housed art studios and an exhibition hall under the same roof. With over 300 square-meters of floor space our house offers plenty of room for projects, workshops, conferences and lectures dealing with the subjects Art and Psychiatry, Art Brut and Outsider Art. As an integrative cultural meeting point for artists both with and without special needs, the Kannen Art-House welcomes everyone interested.

In the 12th century was the name of the Kannen Art-House „Kannen” for the first time noted in a churchly document as the manor “Cane”. The deduction of the name is insecure. Probably the name “Kannen” refers to the first name of one of the owner, Kannen von Schwarte. But there is also an aristocratic family who derives the name from a manor 2 House Kannen” in the past.
