Faces of Kerala
drawn by Artist Baby Appachan

Opening: 2nd August 2015, 3.00pm
Duration: 2nd August – 27th September 2015

The studio Kattappana from India takes also part as an exhibitor on the art fair " 2x2 forum for outsider art und art brut" :  1.10 - 4.10. 2015.

Baby was interested in drawing from the beginning, told Ulla Dziedzioch: ”Often a lot of his housemates were sitting in front of Baby Appachan to get portrayed by him.  […]  He colourates his drawings with a scumble and adds a flower to each person. Baby Appachan learned writing his name out to sign his artwork. “

These drawings are resulting from a project by the artist and designer Ulla Dziedzioch from Münster. The sisters and brothers of the Order Saint John of God are leading a care home in Pratheeksha Bhavan, lying in the mountains of Kattappana (Kerala / South India) where the project took place and found cooperators. For three months the artist and designer Ulla Dziedzioch went along with the residents to draw and paint with them in a safe environment. The atmosphere was free of therapeutic intention and free for their experience and willingness to experiment.

Many thanks for translating and supporting this exhibition to the Sisters of the Saint Thomas Order, at the Alexianer.
