Avatar and Atavism. Outside the Avantgarde

The exhibition “Avatar and Atavism. Outside the Avantgarde” works with comparison and composing the different artworks to make visible the archetypal Art of the 1980`s where heads, hands and other body parts surprisingly cut surface on paintings. They are well-known western artists from different generations that are protesting against abstraction and conceptual art.
The entrance and access to these 30 year old body – pictograms will be bundles of contemporary outsider art. Paintings and drawings by the following six Kunsthaus Kannen artists will be presented: Georg Brinkschulte , Wilhelm Capitaine, Helmut Feder, Gerd Maron, Bruno Ophaus, Reinhold Wlotzka
The exhibiton is curated by Veit Loers, Gregor Jansen and Pia Witzmann. Additional to this current exhibtion Kunsthaus Kannen is also taking part in the exhibition "The Shadow of the Avantgarde" in Museum Folkwang , Essen, curated by Kasper König and Frank Wolf which opening will be 2nd October 2015.
