Kreidezeichnungen
August Vibert, Josef Schwaf, Ulrich Röckmann
29th of March 2009 – 27th of September 2009
Kunsthaus Kannen, Münster
Within this exhibition the exclusive works of three outsider artists, Ulrich Röckmann, August Vibert and Josef Schwaf, all part of the museum’s collection, are presented to a broad public for the first time.
Animal like mythical creatures, vague figures appearing in strong coloured compositions and geometrical forms can be explored within the range of the presented drawings. In his explicit compositions Ulrich Röckmanns expresses his psychotic mind abstracting to geometrical figures whose arrangements and colourings develop a peculiar structure. The drawings of Josef Schwaf on the other hand impress by their inquietude. Created by his energetic drawing technique his man-like figures struggle in a suspenseful interconnection with their surroundings and dominate them at the same time. While all of the three artists use strong, shrill colours August Vibert is the one who utilizes them most sparely. By using two or three colours only he manages to produce creatures that seem to derive from another world gaining their expressiveness by the interplay between contrasting, plane colours and ornamental design. The exhibition shows three artists whose works differ in their respective characteristics while they still are connected by more than just their medium – oil pastel chalk.
