Ulrich Röckmann
*1947, Dülmen †2004, Münster
In the large-format, vivid images of Ulrich Röckmann, shapes and figures come together to form playful constellations. The colors highlight each other and create clear boundaries between the individual forms. Circles, rectangles, and triangles combine into structures that sometimes resemble familiar figures. Can you recognize a clown's face or perhaps a children's toy? The shapes seem familiar but are never entirely graspable. However, with their bright colors, they always appear lively and playful. Before the paintings, small idea sketches were created, in which Röckmann designed his motifs with a ballpoint pen.
In 1996, Ulrich Röckmann moved into a residential group, where he lived from 1996 to 2004 at the Alexianer Campus in Münster. There, he began working artistically in 1997 and maintained his studio space at the Kunsthaus. Even after his death, his works are still represented in the exhibitions at the Kunsthaus.
