Matthias Stöppeler

*1978, Greven

In Stöppeler's work, the image grows out of the depth axis from bundles of superimposed planes of strokes. This gives the impression of an indeterminate space opening up towards the back. The works appear lively, abstract and narrative at the same time. They look like flexible bundles of fibers or like fine feathers seen from close up. They are also remotely reminiscent of the dense vegetation of the rainforest, where the light is subdued and individual accents of color flash out of the dark green.

Matthias Stöppeler was admitted to the Alexianer residential home in 2005, where he now lives in an external residential group. Since 2010, he has taken advantage of the creative therapy offered by the Kunsthaus. Here he creates impressive non-figurative colored pencil drawings of great inner movement in strong colors.
